Look After Yourself...

I kind of know this already but I thought the feature was quite informed. I don't believe always having a healthy diet and lifestyle will mean that you never will become ill nor get a life threatening condition. I have looked after myself as Mum did and both of us have been hit by ill health but it does no harm trying to do what you can to stop/reverse ill health, as it happens, luckily I happen to like most of the foods that are mentioned here so it's no trouble following a diet that these items are included.

Eat Right For Healthy Eyes

No, eating healthy is no guarantee. My mother-in-law exercises every single day...rain or shine. She's always watched her weight and her diet ever since I've known her which is over thirty years.

And when she was diagnosed with diabetes five years ago...she was maaaaad! :o)

Funny thing about her she's eighty-two years old and she takes care of old people for a living...no lie. :o)

In the genes/bad luck as much as anything Jan...

If you still enjoy eating good food/exercising, fine! The worst thing is if avoid certain things or have done without those items they say are harmful/taste nice and still become ill.

All you can do is moderation.

Also what is said to be good/bad for you changes sometimes within days of one report being put into the media.

I sometimes wonder if you spent less time wondering what food is good for you & what you're going to eat next, that you'd have more time to make up your mind about other more important matters & not be so indecisive !

Anon,
I don't sit around thinking about what food is good for me but if it happens to be, it's a bonus.

I used to love thinking what I could cook for Mum and myself either from a recipe seen on a tv programme or as seen in a book.

I suppose that has to include websites. Many can be adapted easily or set you off with ideas of your own.

Not sure where I am indecisive or what other important matters you talk of.

Most of those are financial or from outside sources that I have little or no control over.

So that would be "Can I afford to stay put?" "Will income reduce?""Will I/Should I/Can I bring in a lodger?"

The biggest two that I have no control over(and most of the time I can put out of my mind)and not dwell on are "Will I end up in a home?""Where will I pass away...a home or in hospital?" because they will happen some time, not just for me but many and especially as more of us are living longer and alone.

And this will because of health problems and if you already have them when reasonably young you are at a disadvantage if they classed as chronic and on going. And you are alone.

And now too many perhaps through living longer now have the added problem of dementia or Alzheimers.

You would not be normal not to think about such things, is whether you can put them to the back of your mind and not allow them to dominate.

Then again you could go suddenly tomorrow and then you have worried for nothing. But to tell someone to pull themselves together or not to worry is not the way even if done with the best of intentions.

You know the profession with the biggest occurrences of depression? Being a Dr.

Wonder where that came from? I wasn't thinking about any of that until you brought it up...

Of course you hear about the goodness in food because there is so much information out there, you find it out without trying.

At least its another thing to hold my interest. It's important not to lose interest in the world even if you cannot take part in a lot of what is going on.

Most will work, marry have children and that will be it. Few leave a lasting mark of any importance. Yet many do much more by making a difference in someone's life by caring for someone, giving a comforting word to someone, doing a good deed that may be small but means so much to the person on the receiving end.

Nothing is a guarantee Gildy; we can all try to help but healthy, fit people collapse every day and some smoking, boozing fatties can out-live many!

You are right Span...life does not come with a guarantee for some that is what makes life worth living, not knowing what will happen next.

What's that saying about all we can be sure of is "Death and Taxes!"

If I am lucky I'll go peacefully in my sleep.
