If The Households...

where single people are struggling on benefits/low wages/pensions to feed(have I missed anyone?)stay warm and keep a roof over their heads you know you are in trouble when families are having to use food banks or go without to feed, clothe or stay warm and they are doing all the they can by being as thrifty as possible and following all the tips they can find and looking back and learning from all those that have gone before.

We're not talking about families that put designer clothes or the latest I-phone ahead of everything else. So for the first time ever the charity Save The Children has launched a campaign to help children in this country.

That's not to say that every household where they are doing ok should not try and avoid wasting money on un-necessary goods and not spend beyond their means and to some extent poverty is relevant to the economy of the country that you live and who you are comparing your lifestyle to and I would say the media carries a lot of that burden.

Did they say that they were single? Is that relevant these days? Did we assume that they were single?

If so, could they be single because their partner has passed away, we can't always assume that a relationship has failed.

They could be contributing and still be struggling.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs?

Yes they did say they were single mothers, it would just have been a bit more balanced, if when they were telling the interviewee how much it cost them to bring their children up by themselves, if the money they had left included a contribution from their childrens' fathers.I'm not saying these women were in the following category, but

I watched a programme about midwives last night, a succession of single Mums, with totally disinterested boyfriends who had just had babies were all given subsidised accomodation & appropriate benefits. There's no need for unplanned pregnancies with all the sex education they get at school, not to mention free contraception. They must cost the country a fortune !

And yet most of the benefits probably be have to found in these difficult times with unemployment being so high and wages of those working so low.

Hopefully, these children will repay the cost by working and contributing to society when they are older assuming things improve but I am afraid that I see nothing to suggest that will be the case.

This country has all but lost it's manufacturing industry, more and more business is done on the internet or is delivered so retail is affected and as more technology is brought in companies let their employees go so again jobs reduce still further.

As for the private sector which this Government promotes, today a big insurance company has announced they are going to get rid of 900 employees(and 500 of those are working in a town perhaps 5-6 miles away from here...and that will have a knock on effect on so many other businesses because money is not being spent in the community. And it's another 500 looking for work.

Well, assuming you've also benefited from the afore mentioned sex education, I'm sure you are aware that no contraception is one-hundred percent effective.
