The Town Clock...

It's been chiming and located where it is for around 65 years and seemingly there's never been a problem but a new resident has moved in near the town centre and is unhappy that clock chimes. Unless, he had no choice where he lived, one should ask why did he move into an area where there is a clock, especially if he thought it would annoy.

As most residents around here rarely move and stay put for years, did he not think to ask his neighbours if they were bothered by them? I live quite close to the clock...you become used to them.

He wrote into the local paper on the town and started a petition to have the chimes turned off overnight.

I understand when the town centre is redeveloped the clock may be moved anyhow, that would mean taking it apart brick by brick and rebuilding it in a new location.

I checked how his petition is going and left my vote...so far 80% of responses are leave the chimes alone...20% agree with him. I don't know though how many people have responded(there's no information)and how long he's leaving the survey open for...

This is a bit like the tales of where there is a church in a village or the countryside and new people move in from a city using it as a holiday retreat and they try to silence the church bells/clock which the residents who have been there years don't have a problem with...but they then try to force their views on the other residents...

A bit like moving to the country and then complaining about noises from farm animals and chickens.

No doubt your whinger is a rampant atheist too.

Morning Carol,
Yes I suspect that you are right...surely the idea of moving to somewhere rural is to have a different life to the one you have in a town or city.

Usually there is a choice of properties and they'll move in next door to the church or a farm.

Often, the problem is they complain before they have got used to the new surroundings...

This story has gone quiet but not before quite a few letters appeared in the free sheet the following week saying they like the chimes of the clock, it's been doing it for 60+ years and that he shoul've thought about it before he moved in.

And why not move if he's unhappy.

So hopefully this story has been put to bed...
