If I Was Fortunate To...

Come into a lot of money either by winning a lottery or someone was kind enough to write me into their will what I could and would do would be governed by how much I was given.

Its the only way I'll ever see any such large sums in the remainder of my life.

Number one priority would be to see that Mum gets the best care and is made as comfortable as possible. I'd like to say I'd do the same for family and friends but though I am friendly, sensitive and compassionate, I have no friends...I am alone(No, I take that back, I have some very dear friends on here)but I mean those that you can invite out for a day and perhaps have a meal with.

Family, well again they are few and are all reasonably well off so again I don't have to think of them, so I would have to donate to charity and good causes. And I would. I certainly would not want it to go to the Government if anything happened to me.

As long as I have enough to pay bills, eat well and stay warm that is all that I need. I am sure most of us have similar thoughts.

My luxury if I had silly money would be to have a music library with as many CD's as possible(knowing that I could never ever hear everything)would not worry me, it would just be great to have access to all the wonderful music there is and know I can play whatever I like when I wish. Its possible that I may be able to hear most of what I have in my music library now but I suspect if I played everything 24/7 it could take approx 29 days so perhaps I could.

This comes back to my previous post where I mentioned some of Jeri Southern's music is selling for £50 for one CD.

I can quite understand why some releases cost what they do because of the care of restoring music to a modern standard and the research into the notes and details of the music featured, copyright etc...but there are some wonderful boxed sets by specialist companies like The Bear Family(A German label)but most of their releases are £100+ and that really is a luxury.

And unfortunately many of the artists I wish to collect are on specialist label's that charge over £12 for one CD. So again you have to think before parting with your money whether that's the best choice and sometimes you might want to buy a few CD's.

That's why its welcome that some companies do issue some bargains, I haven't decided yet whether to go for it but there is a release of Bobby Vee's singles output(some stereo tracks, some "B" sides)and we're talking at least 100 tracks for approx £5. Now that is a good buy. Something similar happened regarding Adam Faith last year.

It may be that not all of the CD's contents is great but at that kind of price, it doesn't matter so much.

I still prefer to be able to hold in my hand a CD rather than have a digital file somewhere on a PC which could be lost if your PC fails and I would still always burn it to a CD or DVD so I can get it back again.

If I should be lucky enough to come into some serious money (but I'm afraid I don't expect to), I'll see that you get your music library.
I think you deserve it.

Anthony, for the most part I am content to "just get by", but one thing that does turn me into a quivering wreck is when my cars go wrong.

I wish I had enough money to never worry about keeping a car on the road, not a flash car, just any car.

I have to have one for work, but my latest banger died on SAturday. Had only had it for two months, so I am on Shanks's pony and skint.

I like cds too.

It may sound like an empty promise but your good wishes VQ for me would be returned in a similar way and that goes for you Carol too...

I like to think most of those who do win such money are genuine and help others. I think most do...

I think told you(In another post/comment)my most genuine friends are on here :-)

Most of us don't really ask for much.

How do you cope Carol? I don't want to give too much of your details away but I know you hold down a few jobs and I suspect they are not in the same area.

Even with a car I know that Mum's carer does not get expenses towards the cost of petrol nor do they allow extra time if one job is on another side of town so to do it on foot...

Not helped by the fact that most cars these days are not mechanical and so if the need repair its a costly business.

All the cars my Father and myself drove were mechanical and did not have fancy electronics under the boot.

Well today Anthony I did two cleaning jobs - fairly close in a car! It took me 40 minutes to walk to the first one, cleaned three hours then a fifteen minute walk to the other. cleaned for four hours, then my son picked me up in our one working car!!

It's not so bad though. I am on his insurance and I also am on the insurance of another car which I have access to if I really want.

I will get another one in the future but don't have the stomach for it right now. I spent £1400 last year on repairs of my last but one, so I think I need a break for a while!

Tomorrow I have a job 10 minute walk away for four hours, so it will seem like an easy day in comparison to today. :)

That's dedication for you...They'll say, "Look how fit you'll be!"

Thank heavens when you reach your destination, you are there for some hours...

Suspect you'll be quite tires=d afterwards, hope you sleep well and you don't start too early so you are safe and its not too late if the second is after the place closes.

Not so bad during the Spring/Summer...but not so good when its dark in the morning/evenings.

I don't have a car - or access to one.
Thank God for the pensioners' bus pass!

I say the same for you too VQ. Many would be prisoners in their homes without.

The worry is that such essentials are threatened and as they keep putting the retirement age back, how many will get it.

I have help towards mobility(for now)but the changes coming in and how the criteria will change could be a problem at some point.

They keep saying car use is going down but how much is this because they are so expensive to run.

Especially, when they need to repaired, the insurance, the increase in fuel and more and more cities start introducing charges to enter areas etc...

If we are not careful though we'll all start to stay within a few streets of where we live and miss seeing more of our country.

When I had a car we often went to a park approx 7 miles away and watch the wildlife, people playing bowls etc...

Even with a bus pass we'd have to change busses two or three times, watch the times they are available.

If we used a taxi we probably would have to sacrifice other things to afford the trip and probably only do it once a week(we're talking £24+ return)

When I went with Mum to the hospital for her treatment I travelled roads I haven't for perhaps 15 years or more and I was amazed how things had changed and that included a number of wind turbines that had been erected.

I had no idea. And I'm not talking of very far away from where I live.

But I think bus passes or cheap travel are so important.
