If This Continues...

I'm getting up...I want to go to bed...but all I am doing is coughing...we'll see how it goes...

You know there are so many places I'd love to travel locally but because the public transport is poor, it is difficult to connect. I would even occasionally consider staying overnight in a hotel and come home the next day...that is not as easy as it could be either otherwise I could see some cracking shows that will never happen locally.

Anyhow another show has been pencilled into the local theatre's itinerary for April. on this tour it is fairly basic just him and a guitar rather than with a band. However, all being well I have booked a ticket. He is better known as the lead singer with Dr Hook. He gave them their sound...

It's Dennis Locorriere. So we'll see how it goes...

Thanks Span,
It would appear so...I usually just get on with things but this has really knocked me for six.

At teatime yesterday I did some washing and was determined the worst was over and I was going to go out to the Music Club.

By 7pm I was back in bed and had another bad night. I feel as though I have lost the last three days...I have not eaten but may have some toast later.

I could not even be bothered to close the window with the air pipe from the tumble drier.

Having had a flu jab I assume that I have not had that, this was bad enough.

Fingers crossed I will get to my comedy show tomorrow night.

I've managed by doing all anyone can...sleeping, staying warm, drinking mainly water, taking my vitamins and meds, some paracetemols.

I guess it seems worse when you are on your own just unlucky on this occasion.

My grandpa used to make his own cough medicine: whiskey, lemon, and rock candy.

I do my own version: peppermints crushed-up and melted in whiskey.

It's a lot cheaper than cough meds and it the alcohol seems to do the trick. You might try a shot, if your able, before bed and see if it helps.

Hope your better soon! Hate to think you'd miss your show. :o(

I like the sound of those remedies Jan...and will give them a try and keep them in mind for another time.

We have a kind of beefy paste in a jar called Bovril that you use to make stocks in meals or warm drinks and some on a forum suggseted I get some...so I did ;o)

I'm back having some beef items even after the Horsemeat story you must have seen that is happemning in the UK and Europe.

I gave up on beef years ago after the BSE healthscare but now though I don't eat a lot of meat, I tend to think at my age if I catch something it will happen so I just eat what I feel like.

Perhaps I have eaten horsemeat, who knows.

Lets be honest it's a personal thing or comes down to cultural/religious grounds. I mean some meals that were beef had traces of pork in them and when they mention DNA it does not necessarily there is actually horse or pork in it.

It could be that the equipment used to prepare the meals at the food processor may not have been cleaned properly.

It reminds me of when a product says this was produced in a factory that has nuts and its a warning to people with a nut allergy.

But of course Muslims have been unhappy and Jewish people are unhappy when they hear pork may be included.

That worried them and that was the original story as I remember it...the horsemeat side of things seemed to come afterwards and become more important.

Now it has extended right across Europe.

Overall I the British public do not seem as concerned that they have eaten Horsemeat just that it was not included in the information on the packet so they were not eating what they thought that they were.

I think the media and politicians rightly or wrongly have made it the story it has become.

I mentioned that I got to the show...

Before I went to the theatre, I decided I looked a bit untidy. I don't have much hair but it does get a bit unkempt around the shirt collar so though it may be uneven, I took a pair of scissors to it and for now that has saved me a visit to the hairdressers and some money :o)

I've tried to have a look using mirrors and I think its ok.

Yes, I have heard about the horsemeat thing. That would upset me too, I think.

I heard today Taco Bell apologized they had served some of that meat in some of their European stores. I guess we should be glad their weren't Chihuahuas in there. :oP

As for the cough medicine...yes! I quite like it too! One thing about it...even if it doesn't work? You reeeeally don't care! :o)

Its been said that Americans would simply refuse Horsemeat but would they if things became really bad?

I've never seen a Taco Bell locally but they must exist in cities like London, around here I'd say little local Takeaways do the most business.

They are fewer on the high street and tend to set up on a local industrial Est. amongst factories etc...

You phone an order in and they deliver.

McDonald's still seem to do ok but many of the big fast food/coffee shops when I do get to towns they are located always seem quite empty. And that includes Starbucks.

Myexperience of them is only anecdotal and may not be a true picture. I don't use them. I don't think I could afford to.

I sometimes wonder if I ever will again. It is nice to go out for drink(alcoholic)a tea or coffee or a snack/meal but I am more likely to wait until I come home.

Of course if everyone did that, there would be more "Diners" going out of business and in turn more people unemployed and so on.

Yes, horsemeat would be a very hard sell here. As for hard times, you'll eat anything if times are bad enough...doesn't mean you'd enjoy it.

There was a story on one of the news thingys the other night and the reporter said quite proudly, "Americans seem to be taking their health more seriously, as they eat out less now". My husband and I both laughed and said at exactly the same time, "Ha! They can't AFFORD it!". Just goes to show, they'll spin anything the way they want. :o/

It's pretty bad when you can't even treat your family to a cheap burger at McDonald's once in awhile, let alone a real restaurant.

We have a pizza chain her called Little Caesar's that has tapped into this and they're making a mint! They have what they call Hot N'Ready pizza. These are large pepperoni pizzas that you don't have to order and wait for. You swing by and pick them up and they're only $5.

Now compare $10 for two pizzas which will feed a good size family or $20 (and that's cheap) for McDonald's?

That place is ALWAYS busy. And it's pretty good pizza too.

Yes, the impression given to the world of how we live is true of some but most?

I don't think so. And I suspect the same is true of the impression the world has of America.

That charge for the pizza if they did a straight conversion would be reasonable and inexpensive around £3.33 but they'd probably pitch it at £5($7.51)

I would hope the portions in the States are more generous than we'd be given.

Its not be as cold here which is welcome so I have avoided the central heating.

I was even able to take some clothes off for a change. We are only talking of perhaps 3-5 degrees.

Also, using an extra thermometer, my original bedroom is warmer than the main one at the front of the house so I may switch at some point.

It won't last...

I hope all of the comments you have kindly posted have appeared. My blog has been playing up a little today.
