The Olympics Seem To Be...

Doing well and have settled down and the problems don't seem much more than any other but there are still a lot of empty seats and they are still having difficulty filling them. One newspaper reckons it is still something like 60,000 seats daily. I think they could fill them but because of rules/regulations they are not allowed to. They are supposed to be vacant for "The Olympic Family" That is people involved with the running of the Olympics but that does not explain why they remain empty...

I'd like to credit the source of the image but I have forgotten who posted it...sorry!Smiley

We have some new controversy breaking about some athletes(well badminton players)being accused of not playing as they could for tactical reasons resulting in the crowd booing and officials having to decide what action to take.

There was a documentary on the BBC World Service asking if people who train and take part in events like the Olympics should be more prepared to lose and be able to accept defeat.

Apparently those seats have been dedicated to dignitaries of foreign countries, sponsors, olympic committee members, officials and family of the olympians taking part. This is said to happen at every olympics, there's no way round it and it will happen time and time again. It's not just at this Olympics or a problem with our organisation.

Hunt has suggested that if seats are not filled within 30 minutes of an event starting that those seats can be resold on to members of the public. Good idea in theory but will that cause swathes of people milling around in the hope of getting a ticket - athough there seems to be plenty going spare.

I have to note that I have seen our prince's and Kate Middleton at various events over the last few days, so at least some of our dignitaries are taking the seats!(3) lol

Also LOCOG have asked those committees that are not going to use their even tickets to notify them and hand the tickets back so they can go on to be sold to the public.

I feel under the circumstances LOCOG are doing all they can.

Have a good day pops

I think to some extent LOCOG's hands are tied as you suggest and it has always been so, it won't change.

I think we've managed the Olympics as well as any that have gone before and even if I have avoided it, we have every right to be proud but whether it really is worth what it has cost financially and whether it will promote to the world the image our Government hopes.

And it will take ages to see if the legacy we are promised really works out.
