Another One Bites The Dust?
Recently it was touch and go whether two shops in the town centre were going to close(but clothes shops)Bon Marché(ladies clothes)where I purchased some of Mum's last clothes and Peacock's that sell clothes for men and women but at the last minute both were saved. Had they gone we were virtually free of clothes shops unless you go to the supermarket or out of town.
Now a County Durham based bakery is fighting to stay in business and three stores have been closed as it goes into administration so far the one in my town is still trading but for how long. If this goes the same way we have a Greggs otherwise it's the supermarket again and one small freezer shop which for a town this size is not much choice...a lot of independent baskers have gone the same way...
Things are pretty bad...

It is very sad to see all these, old fashioned, traditional shops that are loved by so many going under. They contain great, fresh products that are hard to find in the big chains.
I don't know who is to blame Sweets(thanks for leaving a comment)Is it the lack of support from customers? The prices or supermarkets?
See our town centre is in two parts and so if people go to the supermarket and you get everything, it's an effort to walk or drive and park to go to the other part of town.
As I said we have Greggs who do some bread products but nothing like what Peters offers.
Yet some specialist bakers do ok and if I lived in a town where one was available and easy to get to I would try and support it!
I have discovered that there is a great indoor market in Durham city but I would have to use a taxi or bus(perhaps I can get a ticket that will let me travel all day)but assuming that is around £7 that already adds to the cost.
Perhaps I'll make a day of it and treat myself and come back with something from the bakery, the specialist food shops and as the budget is tight perhaps I'll get back into making my own wine(there is a home brew shop there too)
I wish there was somewhere more local doing this and a farmer's market(again there is one here)

Good luck with your sweet website btw...
