I Might Become A Hypocrite...
I don't plan to listen or watch any coverage of the Olympics being held in the UK. It may be difficult to avoid as many broadcasters and programmes will feature it in some form. However, the torch will be coming through my town and only a few streets away.
I haven't decided whether to stay indoors or venture out and see it pass by and possibly try to take a photo for my blog or even a little video using the camera...you can do short movies with my camera.

Gildy, it's all taking place on my doorstep. I won't be watching either.
How it can all go ahead, costing billions, when we're up to our necks in debt, I just don't understand.
Easy come, easy go, I suppose.
Most people that I've spoken to don't want the games either.
Who said this was a democracy?
I thought the games were planned yeas ago, before everyone was hard up. There would have been a great outcry if all the preparation and building work had been stopped and left dormant.
There are still a lot of people who do like the games, or some part of them. I don't like all aspects, but I do like the athletics and swimming.
.........and the tax payers are helping to foot the bill.........
You are quite the cynic aren't you Gildy!
I suppose that events like this when financed with private money and many are across the world(plus sponsors who put money into them)are acceptable.
But to try and claim the Olympics are for amatuers or non professionals is difficult.
We still have advertisers sponsoring the event but the amount of money a country has to stump up is frightening especially at this time of economic hardship.
What will we get out of it? I understand London will see a rise in the council tax, problems for people trying to get around whilst it's on, a massive bill for security and a threat something may happen.
A lot of the homes promised will not be affordable to the normal people that live in London so again they'll go those who are financially well off!
And there is no guarantee that many of the buildings used for the Oylmpics will be put to good use afterwards, I heard that quite a few will be demolished or reduced in size.
Will it bring in tourists?
Probably, at the time but afterwards, I doubt it.
It will probably be a white elephant and other countries that bid are probably happy that they didn't get it.
In reality it's too much money for small countries to host.
It might be a better idea if it took place in the same country and every country put some money towards it.
Or perhaps now, it's outdated and should be done away with.
I wonder what the Olympic organisers/committee actually put into the event?
Other than deciding who will host it and being shown around by Government officials and probably having quite a nice time.
I sound really negative don't I? I guess it's one of very few events that is still available without having to pay to watch it which has happened with just about every other sporting event(I'm talking about TV)
People attending have had to pay plenty for the tickets and I did hear the other day that there are still some tickets to entertain people from the corporate sector.
Anon's comment was in answer to an earlier version of this comment so sorry that it's out of the order intended.
If it's successful...fantastic!
I lost my job because of government spending cuts and the Olympics is costing how much?
No, I don't think I'll be getting too excited about it either!
I hope things are improving for you NB, I worry in my situation so I hate to think what's like for yourself...hope your wife is starting to cope with the loss her fatyher...I know how worried you were.
I always said...being in your own company is fine when your loved one is the world, if they are in another room, hospital or a nursing home, they are still in the world.
I used to get excited knowing I was going to see Mum.
Some of us have been on our own for years, and it isn't nice, but you just have to get on with it.
As a few people have said in your blog, join a club or volunteer for a short period each week. That way you meet new people and make new friends. It's a new way of life and you either sink or swim...........and I decided I didn't want to sink. So I swam.....against the tide at times, but I swam and I survived.
I have no intention of sinking...and again you miss the point that even the CAB acknowledge "Those " who curtain twitch and some who are in charge are ready to question what you do...which can have finacially consequences.
The new tests have no provision for varying conditions/pain/fatigue.
I haven't missed the point at all.
I was saying that some of us have been on our own for years and how many survive.
Pardon me for trying to help!
But you only want to know so long as it fits in with your own views!
I don't think that I am actually disagreeing with you Anon...that's exactly it, having to survive and make the best of what life has or will throw at you...Sadly for too many life is a case of surviving and an existance...I will leave this life when God decides my time is up and I cannot change a thing about it.
And whether I can manage to have some kind of life that I can say was good for the time remaining will be down to me, possibly due to circumstances forced on me and that could still include health problems...you plan for years ahead but none of us really know...
But I don't think that I am disagreeing with you. Don't we all judge what's happening by our circumstances? Even what you have done comes down to your situation...and if not something else has happened to stop you.
Sorry, I thought that when you said I was missing the point again.........again...........that you were disagreeing with me!
Nothing was further from my mind...if you were here talking to me face to face to face you'd realise what a reasonable person I am :-)
I think life is hard for many, many people and sometimes even when you are able to get out and mix with others, the fact that you still have to go back to an empty house can still mean that you feel very lonely. Its a constant battle...
When I went around the supermarket last night, things seemed a little like the old days but then you realise that they are not when you come home and open the door.
There is a get together for the Queen's Jubilee in the local leisure centre but if I was to go I miss seeing/hearing the actual event on the TV and radio...
Mum was going to watch the event when it happened sadly that was not to be...
