Having A Thoughtful Day...

I will do something a little more energetic tomorrow but today listening to nostalgic music on the radio. I may have some chicken sandwiches for tea. Its quite sunny outside but I don't think that its very warm but friends online seem to be saying the opposite so perhaps Spring has arrived and Summer isn't that far behind.

I almost went out but with few destinations and a Sunday bus service and many places closed for Easter Sunday I stayed home.

I'll make an effort to get shaved, change clothes around 5pm(ish)and I'll see what I can rustle up for the little bingo session for my little group. Keeping it simple...possibly some cheese and biscuits, a few Easter cakes and crisps...There is a raffle tonight but I can't find my tickets but I only purchased a couple of strips so I'm not too bothered if they don't turn up before I go. Just happy for now I can afford to go(its my most expensive night of the week)I can do all of my social events of the week for what I spend on one night on a Sunday.

Its OK if I break even by winning a bingo game or one of the other little games that are played. Prizes are modest. May I always be able to afford it.

Hi Gildy. I've had a thought and, for the life of me, I can't think why I haven't mentioned it before.
Have you heard of Shopmobility?
It's a scheme that many towns have where anyone can hire a wheelchair or mobility scooter for a small fee.
I don't know exactly where you live but I've heard you mention Darlington so I Googled 'Shopmobility Darlington'. With their particular scheme (all towns have their slight differences) you register for £10 and then, each time you use their scooter, it's just £3 per day.

My cousin and I used the scheme when we were in Brighton for a few days last summer. There, you don't pay to register but the charge is £6 per day. Even so, it was an absolute boon to us.

It would be invaluable to you on your jaunts and you would be able to get around to see much more of places.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Another supporter for Shopmobilty here. Would be good practice for you now before you get your own scooter, and also enable you to get used to it.

You're probably going to mention the cost of the hire, but you could manage it by perhaps cutting down on your food purchases?

Sometimes I wonder if you shop so much because you're bored? I live alone like you, and I don't buy half the amount of food you seem to. :)

Sounds a good idea but I think I am sold on having a scooter if just to see I benefit rather than see it go on bills.

I love my food and I hope that I can always enjoy lovely meals, I'm quite good at costing out food items and if I buy a proper freezer and buy items in bulk I can perhaps bring food costs down even further and not do as much shopping in supermarkets. And redirect it to more pleasurable things.

Still feeling quite upbeat. If it wasn't Sunday bus service and so late I'd be riding somewhere on a bus now but the nearest decent place to watch the world go by is Durham. I'll be there on Wednesday night anyhow watching the US singer/songwriter Jimmy Webb. Its the music Club tomorrow night, The little bingo club on Thursday night so that's most of this week taken care of.

It may seem the wrong type of meal for a sunny night but I have a kind chicken casserole/soup in the slow cooker which I may have for supper later and if any remains I'll have it tomorrow.

I think that's come in at around £1.50 a large portion. Some chicken remains for snacks/sandwiches. I think its a night of radio listening as little seems to appeal on the TV. I've just had an ice cream lolly and a coffee.

I managed to find a nice colourful doormat in Aldi's reduced by £3 so that is now in the hall behind the front door.

But like I said, why not TRY the service now, before you buy a scooter, so you can have a practice? :)

It won't do you any harm, and can only do good - especially as it could be a back-up service for you if - Heaven forbid - your bought scooter needed to go in for repair OR you went on holiday and needed to use one, like Virgin Queen above mentions?

I cost things too and like eating well - and I STILL don't buy as much food as you, or make so many shopping trips to the supermarket. :)

I'd gone to bed :-) Got a few ideas to follow up that may/may not come to anything...wondering if I "Have" to spend all my windfall to continue to benefit in a number of ways or still lose out? Wondering if I can invest/delay having to use some of my windfall as I have been told a few things in the last few days and to be honest if there is a possibility the authorities won't tell you. Someone in a similar boat(worth more)has been instructed of a different way forward(all above board)Think I'll have a word with my bank and make an appointment. If things remain as is...what have I lost?

Yes, but what about my suggestion you at least have a practice with the Shopmobility scooters and the points I made above? If you take different ones out and about (whilst waiting for your money and then for the actual scooter) you'll get to find out which particular types/makes you find best. :)

If you don't want to try it, just say so to me; I'd rather you were direct, and then I'll know not to suggest again. It's just that I've read back through some of your older posts and people have been suggesting to you for about 3 years now to get a scooter, and I can't understand why you haven't tried out Shopmobility in all that time.

I'll always be direct...and especially with you. :-) I'm going to try out a scooter soon. Someone I know has one. I did not know of shopmobility until you and VQ mentioned the scheme.

For where I go I was OK without one and things have changed of late hence the delay. Also I wasn't going far on the town. And its the last few years I have attempted to get out to a wider area.

I may invest in a good one that will last hopefully years and a little second hand/refurbished one for the short undemanding runs.

Some of them can be picked up for next to nothing. As long as I can stay put and have access to both a passage next to the house and a garage its easy to store them.

If income remains much as now...and if a change of government happens in May and the promised scrapping of the bedroom tax happens even better. All unknown at present.

Ah, I see now that you have explained. :)

One word of advice - make sure any passage you have to get them through is wide enough! My neighbour has one and he can't get it through the passage, and of course he can't leave it outside for fear of it being stolen, so he's had to build a very strong little shed to house it in, in the front garden.

So perhaps measuring the width of any doorway/passageway you have might be a good idea?

I'm with you on the scrapping of the bedroom tax! Can't wait to help get those dratted Conservatives out of power! ;)

A comment from Virgin QueenWhich failed to load here...There you go again with your belt AND braces, Gildy 😄.
You don't need one good scooter plus a little run-around. Buy one strong, secondhand scooter and take out annual insurance which covers your for theft, 24/7 breakdown and public liability so that, in the event of an accident, you're covered. (Mine costs about £100 per annum.)
Just remember to charge the batteries every time you come back from a run. These batteries need to be kept topped up. They use very little electricity.
Always remember to take the key out of the ignition when you're not with the scooter!
Enjoy the sunshine - it contains vitamin D which is good for the immune system.
