Chips With Everything...

Not quite but experimenting...

I have cut some Desiree potatoes(leaving the skins on)boiled them which happened very quickly.

Later on I will fry them in olive oil either in a frying pan or saucepan. It has proven how quickly potatoes cook if made smaller and to be honest even if I left them as chips but as boiled they were actually quite interesting.

I will use the vegetable water in my gravy and add the mince to the gravy which I have already browned. The vegetables and mince unused will go in the fridge for another meal tomorrow. Either the same or I might turn it into a Shepherd's Pie or something else.

Oh I'm thinking of having a go at making a wholemeal sourdough loaf and one with added spinach and cheese, getting adventurous in my old age.

Usually when I make homemade fries/chips I microwave the potatoes until just underdone. Let them cool completely. Pull the skins off, cut and fry.

Saves oodles of time. :o)

What a great idea Jan...that saves boiling them in the first place...and the smaller the potatoes the quicker they'll microwave.

I'm going to hunt out all my kitchen utensils, crockery and see just exactly what I have and whether I am short of anything. I have a feeling the reverse is true.

I probably could have a clear out instead. Not sure many items match or are a set. But when cooking for one that really does not matter.

I could make life easier for myself by sticking to a small selection of items to cut down on washing up too...after all how many mugs/cups do you need daily?

I could do the same with other items and have one bowl, one tea plate and one dinner plate etc...

Then again perhaps I could buy one full set of crockery that looks nice as there is probably something to be said about presenting food in an appealing way and making it a pleasure to the eye...

I hope that method works for you too! :o)

Just about everything I have is mismatched. The only sets I have are wedding gifts from thirty-years ago! :oP

I would go nuts if I had to use the same dishes all the time. You can usually buy sets (cup/saucer/dessert plate/dinner plate) for one. Frankly, I love going to someones home and choosing my own cup and saucer. :o)

I think I'd shop the thrift stores for those, Gildy. You can get really nice things for dirt cheap.

The love of pretty dishes I get from my Mom. She had so many that when she passed all of us girls got plenty and still left some there for my Pops to use.

I don't have the girly "shoe" thing but I do have the "dishes" thing...in spades, much to my husbands lament. :o/

I agree that food tastes better when it looks nice. It really enhances the experience.
