Nothing To Fear...

A few posts back an Anon mentioned I would be ok and looked after because I and many others have health problems...of course many are now worried about other things like changes in other benefits are coming that will affect people in other situations but back to those who are ill.

I'll just post links to two news stories and say nothing more...

Paralympic sponsor engulfed by disability tests row

Of course some sites are heavily political but I think the Independent article and BBC feature is pretty fair.

Are you deliberately trying to make yourself miserable & gloomy reading storied like that ? You don't know what's going to happen yet, so stop making all this an excuse for sitting at home by yourself & fretting !It's very counter productive, you'll end up with acute depression if you're not careful !

The article states that Celia Burn's withdrawn benefit of £30 was actually re-reinstated later.

The article also says that there are 2.6 MILLION people on incapacity benefit in the country.

That is a helluva lot of money to find each week by the 18 million people paying tax. So surely even you must agree that there has to be an audit occasionally?
... just to make sure the right people are getting the help they need while the wronguns are taken out of it.

Look how long it took...if you don't like that article look at the new one written by Polly Toynbee...

You may get an odd comment from me but for now that's all...

At this time I feel much as I always have because you can pretend nothing is about happen but you know things are going to change and few of us have any control over what is going on...now lets see if you manage to get me to respond any more...

It's only because I was tidying things up...

BTW don't you think I should e informed about what is happening, by ignoring it, it will not go away...

If you believe what Polly Toynbee says , you'll believe anything . We'd have a very L wing Govt if she had anything to do with it. She believes in complete wealth distribution so she 'd tax the wealth creators so hard they'd leave the country, & you'd be even worse off than you are now !

Yes I think you should be informed, but you're only looking at things from your point of view, not those who go out to work & pay taxes so you can sit at home listening to the radio & complaining to us all what a hard life you have.

Hi

I've now been able to get into reading the comments on your blog.

The comments here - and what happened on the MSE thread have certainly been a "learning experience".

I was on the receiving end of some bouts of bullying on MSE Old Style and couldnt figure out how to stop it no matter how I tried. I have often wondered if I should have totally ignored the bullies - rather than replying back/getting angry at times with them/etc. Obviously its understandable that I lost my temper with them a couple of times and any reasonable person (who had followed this throughout) would have realised what provocation I was under and it wasnt at all surprising if I "snapped" a couple of times and said things that I wouldnt have done normally in hindsight.

Following the thread regularly, as I do, I have read your posts from the outset and have never seen you say one single personal comment that could be taken by ANYONE as at all negative/nasty/lost temper/etc - try as they might to do so. So - the "learning experience" has been that there are always people out there who are jealous of others (even if those others don't actually have very much in life) and will turn on them with nasty comments - just because they are jealous.

Looked at logically - would anyone be able to say anything about anyone wishing to keep a tiny inheritance if their income was salary (rather than benefit)? It would be a lot harder for them to do so - but there would still be some "green jealous eyes" around - but they probably wouldnt have the nerve to actually say anything. If the house concerned was owned (rather than rented in the public sector) they would find it harder to say anything - but there would still be some "jealous eyes" around.

What I'm saying is "Be careful, be very careful" because when "times are hard" in a society, then weaker/less educated people will be out looking for scapegoats. Times are hard and getting harder and those less educated people are now on the hunt for scapegoats again - just keep a little bit more schtum about your personal financial circumstances and, hopefully, you won't be scapegoated again.

The Burning Times (ie the 10 centuries where people were scapegoated in the main for being poor/single/women that someone had taken a personal dislike to and therefore proclaimed that they were a witch and should be drowned/burned) havent gone away. People have had to stop labelling people they dont like as witches and having them murdered - but that particular impulse in human nature hasnt gone away. Its hidden better and surfaces in different ways these days - but it IS still there in some people.

Anyway - lie a bit low for now on MSE and don't tell people so much about any personal "advantages" you have in future and hopefully it won't happen to you again. They'll only pick some other victim - but at least it won't be you "tied to the stake with a witches hat on" m'dear.

btw - about that gout. I have one word for you - cherries.

I've had exactly that before now (ie big toe pain - and realised that somehow I had got gout) and got rid of it eating a huge portion of cherries per day every day for some days (cant recall how many days - it was somewhere between a week and 2 weeks that I was having those daily cherries for).

It wasnt a cherry time of year - so I had to have canned cherries. Fortunately I like cherries - I just had to dispose of the syrup they came in (as I very rarely have anything with sugar in).

If I remember correctly it was Polly Toynbee (who a few years ago) was complaining about not be able to get British labour to do her menial jobs and she had to settle for 'hard working' Eastern Europeans.

I really don't know what you expect from your blog? as you have now deleted a lot of posters.

From what I saw, none could be regarded as offensive as some people have tried to consul you with the fact that things may not be as bad as you paint them. But your not interested in that as you have made your mind up how its going to be.

'annonymous' is the quickest response button by anybody caring enough to comment on what you have said, but as you don't like what is said then maybe you should set the blog up without a reply button or friends only?

Ceridwen,
Whilst laying low at the other place, I should do so here but I wanted to thank you for your comments. But why should I stop my blog?

It is primarily for me and perhaps a release but the fact someone wants to read what I write and leave comments is a bonus.

Sometimes I get support(if they take a different view to mine)it gives me something to think about.

I've probably been too open and honest as you suggest so I'll pull back a little and perhaps write posts, sit on them for a while and decide what to leave in and take out so some of the immediacy will be lost. A price worth paying. But if what I have said has helped others in a similar situation they may lose out.

If you write as you are thinking I suppose you could say something you'll regret and some of what I say has been misunderstood by accident, choice or just to be nasty.

Now for one of my Anon's...

Some comments are selective.

Examples? "you're only looking at things from your point of view"

Well, it is my blog and my situation though I often put the other side so I do try to see it from all sides.

"not those who go out to work & pay taxes"

True but I have in the past and may again but my views have not changed about helping the vulnerable and having been in the situation I feel it even more.

"So you can sit at home listening to the radio & complaining to us all what a hard life you have."

My life is different/difficult but not compared to many others of which I am sure I could write a long list of examples but is relevant to the country you live and your individual circumstances.

For many it is the unknowns that we know are coming but don't quite know how bad it's going to be but only a fool would say what is happening is a good thing. And there is nothing to fear.

They say 17 benefit cuts are coming and even the "dole" will be means tested and they are leaving the threshold on savings at it's present level and with jobs hard to come by this will just encourage people to ask what am I saving for? And cause more hardship.

I have said that I listen to the radio but when at home, why not?

I could be listening in the evening/overnight. A radio is often company to someone living alone.

As for sitting at home, most people can only go out so much if they are retired/ill and if income is low unless something is free and close by there is a limit what you can do socially or to be entertained.

And if you are not yet at the age where you can get a bus pass even more so...and I understand at the next election they are being withdrawn or will have the age you are entitled to one put back, before long I suspect you'll see the retirement age moved back still further to at least 70 years...

Thank you for the advice regarding gout Ceridwen,

Gildy x

Anon...
You are telling lies...
I have not removed any post nor any comment. So unless you are going into my settings and removing posts everything that has been said is still on my blog and these past hours when I planned to take a break, comments made have been so vindictive(and in many cases wrong)it would have been so easy to take them down.

If you all want to to use the anon button so we know which anon is which can you sign your comments at the bottom so we know who is who...

I have said before you can all comment on me because I tell about myself but often things cannot really be discussed because many leaving comments are a mystery.

So we don't know why those commenting hold such opinions and what colours their views.

Great post from Ceridwen. I will always remember when I was offered a house on my estate and the estate manager said "Be careful and keep your counsel" - it was very sage advice which I took and kept myself friendly but impersonal.

Thanks Carol,
They still refuse to put names in their posted comments and keep harping on about the same things.

There was a time when one anon said they would not read or post any more and would leave.

I have a feeling that person/persons are posting again.

Well guess what, I still haven't censored comments and so far that's the plan but from now on, If you don't put a name within the post and I see it coming up regularly. I am not responding.

Your post and Ceridwen's are very wise.

Thank you...

Those without accounts obviously use anon, but as has been mentioned you can set this up to a log in only or no reply at all.

I too have noticed that sometimes posts dissapeer and then sometimes they are back again, so maybe its just a memory cache thingi ?

As for your problems I think (like all good planners) you have to face in your mind the worse case scenario and then work out a plan of action, obviously storing food is no answer as it eventually runs out,
but perhaps you could consider a new age lifestyle, travelling and living in the woods? or move to the seaside perhaps.... that is only ideas, but now is the time to come up with your own ideas and consider what to do if A,B or C happens
cheers
Tim

Thank You Tim,

I feel so much happier having a name and you can disagree with me you know :-)

If things stay much as present, even if things are tight I might be able to stay put or in time I may find something smaller.

I can make my food last ages and they have great dates on them. It's either buy a couple of extra items now and again or I buy what I was going to but perhaps it doesn't get eaten at the time so it's there.

The idea of living by sea appeals as does living in the countryside but that would probably mean going into private renting and from the point of view of them trying to cut the help they give the Government won't like this as it may be more expensive for them.

I think/I hope I have a little while yet where I can take a little time to come to what is quite a big decision.

If it wasn't for that I feel calm and certainly not depressed.

As for posts disappearing Tim, I don't know, it must be happening on Google's site as once we all post on my blog, the only way a post could go is if I was to remove it and I can say I have not done that.

I am interested in what you say...
