I was going to let it go and see if it went away but phoned the Dr's surgery 5 minutes ago and they have given me an appointment just before midday so I better get ready...

Hope that's all it is...he might do a blood test with having kidney problems...

Yes, it's gout and the Dr thinks it will go away over the next two or three days but if it gets worse I should go back.

The Dr has suggested using some painkillers I have in the house but says I may have to anti inflamatory drugs but there are risks with them as I have kidney problems.

And he thinks the tablets I take to get rid or water retention are the likely cause of the gout in the first place.

Gout use to be a sedentary rich man's complaint.

My Dr says mine is due to medication and I always saw it as being normally associated with people who eat rich food and drank port etc...so it was associated with the upper classes.

I guess a bit like those in tv drama series like "Upstairs, Downstairs"

It's getting better already(and that's after I cut back on the water tablets...)

I'm not sedentary I do go out if I can daily but my Dr says that my condition does result in fatigue.

I know a few people who you could not say are inactive and have gout worse than me...
