So Yesterday,
I ate reasonably well. Today, so far no! But I'll not come to any harm for that. However, I have decided to make an effort and go for a good old standard favourite...It's nice anytime of day. They used to serve it in many hotels and guest houses to set the guest up for the day ahead, many had it before heading out to work.
Then there was none of this "I Haven't Time For A Cooked Breakfast!" and grabbing a cup tea or coffee and a slice of toast. Was there more time? Was it something that Carol alluded to in an earlier comment about being a stay at home housewife.
That's to say were we able to have more time around the Breakfast table because whilst children were getting ready for school and hubby was washing, shaving, dressing...the other half was taking care of all of this?
Or is it back to the media influencing what we do? Or don't do. There was a concerted effort by health experts to tell us how bad it was for our health and we were clogging up our arteries. No mention that we'd eaten like this for decades and many were fine, no mention that many jobs these days meant our lifestyles were less active.
Why is it bad to have a couple of rashes of bacon(it doesn't have to be thick)the present streaky bacon I use is cooked in the microwave in perhaps 3-4 minutes or in a frying pan using olive oil(drained on kitchen roll)tomatoes(tinned or fresh)sliced mushrooms, beans, sausages, egg(there's a few options there)fried, poached, scrambled or omelet. A piece of fried bread...optional. Followed by tea or coffee. Now, that is not overload to me, it depends on the size of the portions and whether you eat something before or after.
You may start with an Orange juice. Do you have cereal/fruit? Porridge. Toast? You can circulate all these ideas and combinations across a week and many more. There are smoothies to have. Some things are simpler than others.
Back to the hotel, I remember having it all...Orange juice, Cornflakes, the cooked breakfast and toast, marmalade and tea. But the idea behind it was sound. You were not returning for 8-9 hours until the evening meal.
The downfall for many was those who would still go to a café and have something in the middle of the day. My memory is not very good on that score, I don't think that we did, I think as long as we had a cup of tea, we were were ok. If we had anything it might have been a pack of sandwiches from somewhere like Marks and Spencer. I couldn't imagine sitting down to another meal. Now that's perhaps were the overload comes in.
It's a big generalisation but I do seem to have memories that all the elderly seemed to be doing is eating whatever time of the day it was in most holiday resorts...
Think I will go and make a drink of coffee and have a slice of cake as an afternoon treat and make my meal perhaps around 7pm.

I know a lady who has bacon and eggs every morning and is very slim and healthy.
I also worked for an old chap who lived to 93. He used to love meat, meat and more meat. Eggs, bacon and he always had butter.
I heard that they demonised these foods because there is not a lot you can do to alter them and therfore difficult to raise the price.
butter was demonised so they could make all these margerines and spreads with omega dubris etc.
If you read the reviews on the cholesterol con on Amazon you can get an idea why cholesterol is such a huge money spinner. They now want to test children.
Why people believe big pharma are so concerned that we all remain healthy is beyond me!
Just my pennorth. Having said that Gildy I am eating compulsively at the moment and that is not good either.
I have gone gluten free as seemed to be having a wheat problem, and the oats are £2.99 a packet which is a lot. I have felt so much better though for making the change.
Just wish I could lose my need for sweet things.

The thing is I do love food but when you are eating for one, it can be an effort and so easy to grab something simple. Also it can seem wrong buying something that is expensive but may get wasted.
I am sure there will be things I will eat only once in a while now...
Again, if you are not burning off the calories, its just going to increase the weight.
I agree with all that you say, I think we go through phases.
I still plan to have that meal...
But my coffee and cake went on hold so I'll put that right now.
I enjoy sweet things but can resist(the price helps)as it does with wine and spirits(good in some way but if you only have a small amount it's awful having to go without.
I have bought a ticket for the Joe Brown Concert...a lot may happen between now and then which could stop me attending but at least I have a ticket and a seat.
I'll pay the fee on Monday and that only leaves me to find approx £30 by the 1st October(if I put aside £1.50 per week)I'll soon have it or drop a couple of local taxi's.

I don't know much about Joe Brown, only that he was a cheeky chappie with spiky hair. Don't really know much about his music. Hope you enjoy the concert.
Now going to theatre or music concerts (where you can sit down) is worth every penny if you can get the money together.
My son is 25 and we often go to concerts together. We have been to see the Hollies several times and recently Justin Currie (of Del Amitri), you may not know of him but he is top quality.
We also try to see Paul Carrack who was in Mike and the Mechanics many years ago and sang with Squeeze for a while.
Live theatre or music is worth it;s weight in gold for taking you out of yourself and you can enjoy on your own, though it is nicer to share with someone.

Carol,
I don't know why but after booking the ticket, I found myself having a little cry and had to let it go...that must be how these things work.
Its only 7 miles away, its the travelling costs that add to it all...
I'm now on a roll and debating whether to book another couple of shows.
There were quite a few years we were so well known at that theatre and were known by name. It will be strange being on my own.
I don't think I could be bothered to go to a drama.
There is a one night of The Rat Pack that played in London, Rick Wakeman telling tales and playing a piano.
There is a Buddy Holly special too.
Comedywise I was debating whether to see Ken Dodd(It must 20 years since I last saw him, it could be the last chance)
I have heard good things about The Hollies and Paul Carrack. Justin Currie is new to me.
I think music lifts you and takes you places nothing else can so I think I'll be concentrating on concerts.
Joe Brown is so much more than the few hits the radio insist on playing. He's just such a nice guy, you feel a warmth towards him and he's so well liked in the business too.
There is a week in September where you could do a different show each night. I'm debating whether to go for it whilst I am able, next year I may be unable to. The Searchers are appearing, there is even a night with Gerry and The Pacemakers, PJ Proby, The Animals. I may stretch to another two(and Rick Wakeman and The Rat Pack may be the two I'll consider)
I have records by Sinatra, Martin and Sammy in my collection as for Rick I probably have but not in his own name more likely its because he accompanied the credited artist.
