Phone Bill Was A Little Bit Less Than I Was Told...
It Came in just £123, not a lot of a reduction but I'll take it!
That's me now finished with BT after decades. I say me, Mum paid the telephone bill and stayed loyal to them, these days you have to shop around...
Ironically the ISP I have joined I understand is run by BT but is kept as a seperate outfit!
The next bill will probably be the electric...

Hi Gildy
I seem to remember you saying that you passed your driving test many years ago.
If so, how long did you drive for and what kind of car did you have?
Much mention has been made of mobility scooters on these posts, so I was wondering if (money permitting), you would still be able to drive or does your health problems prohibit it.
Don't answer any of this if it seems too nosey, I am just picturing you in a Morris Minor for some reason!!
Cx
Nice idea but I have not driven a car for I would guess 10 years and they are so costly to run these days. I was a good and safe driver and used to love going to the local park or seaside on nights like this when its a lovely sunny evening.
Hi Gildy
I just wondered what you got for your £122 bill? was that a month, quarter, six months etc?
For example Did you have 'anytime' calls and an ISP?
has your new account cut down on that?
just asked as I am considering changing myself
Hi Anon,
If you can manage on 10gb of broadband and making calls at weekends or weeknights you can get a cheap deal. And you could still have more than that 10gb at no extra cost if you download/surf between midnight and 8am.
If you pay upfront on your phone line rental for the year they'll reduce it by £3.49 a month. If you then decide to pay £3.49 each month you can make calls 24/7.
If you disconnect before 60 minutes is up and redial calls are free.
The broadband is well priced compared to other ISP's too.
They've just relaunched some offers and the deals may even be better than the one I managed to get.
You can switch between packages without penalty and I don't think you are tied into an annual contract unless you do as I said pay a year's phone rental in advance...
Copy and paste this link...
http://www.plus.net/packages/
or click on the link that is down the left hand side of my blog...they are also very friendly and you can talk to the call centre staff.
I looked at that last BT bill it would've been more expensive if they had been able to add more of the advanced line rental.
No ISP was included and they were offering weeknight calls/weekend calls.
So when I was calling outside t0those times what could have been cheap calls were costing a lot.
You are given £55 of monthly credit at Plusnet which if all calls are free are carried to the next month. If you use some of that credit less is carried over. But you can top it up.
If you have a package where you call at anytime they increase the monthly credit to £75.
If you make calls abroad they'll reduce the charge on most destinations by 25% and if you use Skype or other internet phone services in theory all calls could be free...
So it wasn't the best deal.
I dont really understand what a GB limit actually means in real terms.
I would not want to leave myself short.
I like to listen to internet speech radio, so how much bytes does that burn up in say an hour?
or reading and contributing to your pages?
a windows update of 100megs?
or watching a 3 minute youtube?
sorry to put this to you but any yardstick would be helpful
thanks

They are very good at explaining all that on the phone but I can listen to(well I could)10 hours of streaming radio daily and it makes hardly a dent.
Ordinary surfing, emailing and an odd You Tube video, the same...but again unless you are working/have to go to bed early, the heavy stuff could be done after midnight.
I think the most you'll use is when your computer software updates but if you set it up to do that overnight, that will not come out of your allowance.
I get baffled about what GB and similar terms mean...if 10gb is too little you can always upgrade.
I asked about what I was doing overnight and was told it was chicken feed and to go for it. If you could download podcasts or record your radio overnight, you could play it back during your waking hours...
What takes a lot of your allowance would be downloading items or watching films and tv online, if that is something you rarely do 10GB is more than enough.
I have only used approx 40gb in 4 weeks so I have not used 20gb of what I could've and if this continues I may eventually switch back to 10gb.
In fact you could far exceed your allowance by making use of the overnight offer, I am told you may as well call that period unlimited access so you may pay for 10gb but you could just go mad.
At present I am struggling to use what I could but that's because I don't watch tv and films.
In theory if you don't mind being tied to the pc and are in the same room you could stop using the radio and listen via the pc, often the sound is reasonable.
You have to laugh...the final BT bill was an ammended one with a new date, it arrived yesterday and was paid the same day.
They write today telling me that I am late in paying and I must pay immediately otherwise they will pass the debt to an independent debt collection agency and this will affect my credit rating. Talk about being quick off the mark!
Not in a nasty way I decide to register my unhappiness at getting such a reminder when I paid promptly and could not pay earlier because I was awaiting an amended bill.
Some are hopeless at dealing with the public...
Finally having explained the situation I am in and that I had changed my phone supplier...she ends by saying enjoy the rest of your day, the sentiment is harmless but when you trying to get into a kind of normal life again "Enjoy" is the wrong word.
Ohhh I know, Gildy.
Couldn't you just scream when it's pouring outside, you haven't been able to find what you're looking for and you know you've a struggle ahead to get to the bus stop.... and a moron tells you to have a lovely weekend!
Who is it that tells them to use such inanities? (Is that a word? It is now!)
There must be some way they could wish you well without using standard expressions that they have been told to.
So far everytime I have talked to BT I have been answered by someone with an Asian accent. They have every right and may have been born here so they are British. If I phoned a phone company in Spain I might expect to hear a Spanish accent even if they can speak English and as I am in another country its upto me to make an effort.
What I don't know is when I phone BT is it a call centre in the UK or abroad?
What is kind of funny so far is that everyone I have talked to at my new ISP, whatever their names are, all have a Yorkshire accent and they tell you the call centre is in Yorkshire and they are proud of that fact.
But I understand every word! :-)
