The BBC's Coverage Of The Jubilee Has Been Criticised...
I heard some of the discussion on the Today programme on Radio 4, now it's on the internet. I think the coverage on the day of the service at St. Paul's Cathedral and the flyover the Buckingham Palace was fine and done straight and informative, I think the day of the concert because it was a light event you could forgive the coverage being more in the style of The One Show and some of the demographics of viewers probably meant it attracted a younger or family orientated audience.
The trouble was that the radio and tv coverage of the historic flotilla on Sunday was treated in a light hearted manner too and that should have been handled in a less trivial manner. They did not tell you about the boats or much about the planning. They could have still included the experiences of the people who lined the embankments.
The straightest coverage might've been some presenters who were sent to London to cover the event on behalf of BBC Radio Solent and they did seem to include some interviews with people who really were more than just celebs and hangers on...and they were able to give details about the boats but if they could it suggests the rest of the BBC would have had access to similar information but some producer chose not to.
As I said Radio 2 did not say much at all about the flotilla and kept bringing in people like Russell Grant and Fern Britton into the studio.
Begging the question...why?
I'm not a fan of Richard Bacon but his style fitted the concert seeing it was very show bizzie but the radio critic and champion of radio Gillian Reynolds said that Radio 5 had used him on the day of the Thanksgiving Service, it was a formal event and he'd called it "Stiff" What did he expect? It kind of sums up that he was probably the wrong choice. They should have found someone with a bit more gravitas.
Even when he does serious it never sounds as though he is being. He is popular but he does seem to divide the audience somewhat.

I think I'm all jubileed out!
I thought the flotilla was great - shame about the awful weather.
I thought the St. Paul's service lived up to expectations but I thought we could have done without the concert. It might have been different if the acts had been the Queen's favourites but I suspect that 90% of them would not have been on her list. (Nor mine!)
Having said that, it was fitting that her 60 years on the throne should be celebrated and she looked as if she enjoyed most of it.
Only another ten years to the platinum jubilee.
So much time has passed by already...I dare not think about the next celebration and if Philip's health deteriorates she may decide to pass the position(and we are assuming she will be ok)
Then again Philip would be almost 101 give or take a week.
The BBC has had approx 2,500 complaints and say they have taken on board the criticism, it wouldn't have needed much to fix.
The let down was how they did the event on the Thames, you could mix some trivia and ask for personal stories from the crowds but there was too much and they seem to think shouting at the camera or keep asking people cheer all the time is good broadcasting.
That's what people like Chris Evans and Richard Bacon do...possibly ok at a pop concert but not right on that day...
The One Show is undemanding and that is the wrong style for something historic which they seemed to go for.
The day they got it right was the day of the Thanksgiving Service.
Its up to 3,500 complaints now...
Are you pleased?
Now which Anon is this?
Not particularly...its perhaps good to see that all the viewers were mainly asking for was less reliance on celebs and to have some people on screen who when they open their mouths they are saying something worthwhile.
I felt that you were gloating!
Now why does that not surprise me.
You really seem to hate me but you keep coming back either interogating what I say or suggesting all manner of cynical thoughts, even about my auntie the other day.
There's curiosity, criticism and then abuse. It seems the latter with you. I don't think I have ever gloated in my life. I have a feeling you would be paid back in some way.
It feels as though it should be one of the Seven Deadly Sins even though I know that it not(pride, envy, greed, anger, sloth, lust, gluttony)don't feel any of them either. A few years ago the Vatican came up with a few new ones for a modern world including polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice.
I'm safe on those too...
You have the wrong Anon in some of the things you are accusing me of......I certainly don't hate you! That's nearly as bad as being told I'm like the Gestapo for which your lovely friend VQ apologised.
Nor have I said some of the things you mention, and abuse is a very strong word to use too!
Ok I beg your forgiveness and I would hate to frighten you off, Its nice to know that I am not hated. But it has made things difficult and put me on my guard.
To help us know who is who how about sticking a name at the end of a comment so we always know which Anon is saying what.
We have Jan, Carol, Nick etc...
In your case abuse probably is a strong term but not necessarily wrong regarding the one who says the worst things, the trouble is it does mean the wrong anon gets the blame sometimes...
BTW I am not necessarily asking/expecting for me to be liked. I'm not a saint, who is?
