It's Still Cold And Dull Outside...

But it's not raining. I have finally made a start on putting the flowers into the containers...

I have done the hanging basket and filled it with Bizzie Lizzie's.

I have contacted the company that is doing the arrangements for the switchover regarding them turning analogue tv off and it becoming digital which happens in September.

I had to stop them sending letters out to Mum but asked if I had done all that I should to receive a service(my Sky box is now a Freesat box)so I should not receive any pay channels and that means most of the channels run by Sky but so far they haven't turned off what they should so I am still able to view everything for now...

When I said that I also have two tv's able to pick up Freeview they said there is nothing I need to do(unless the signal is poor and I need to replace the areal)

Now again, don't forget I did not buy the most expensive tv's and what I have has to last me for years. That because of the digital switchover soon my 30 year old tv won't be much use...and the second may pick up a TV signal but it's actually a computer monitor.

Later today, all being well, my computer man will come and put me some software onto the computer so hopefully I can record more things than I am able now(could be handy over the weekend of the Jubilee where programmes clash)

Then I may have a look out and get a few little things as I think some shops may be closed or have different opening hours over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The other night as I laid on my bed I realised that the swallows(or is it swifts)have returned as they do every summer, they live in the eaves of our houses. I never see them anywhere else just our few houses, the aerobatics that they get  up to when feeding on the wing, chasing after each other and the speed that they come out of their nests and back in without ever misjudging it is something to see...

Life goes on...

I don't know of any of the following can be adapted so one person can eat or drink the recipe's but I found the following site telling the virtues of Beetroot

I have all the gadgets to make a  lot of what they mention but it's more can you afford to do some of what is suggested...

Beetroot is great, the juice mixed with orange and carrot juice was my favourite for ages (in my South America years!)

...just don't get too worried when your toilet activities are blackcurrant coloured.

I love beetroot just as it is - in fact years ago I took a jar of beetroot to eat in the cinema!! How's that for eccentricity? :)

Cat got your tongue, Carol?

Yes, I remember a very frightening time when I went to the toilet some time after eating, (and forgetting that I'd eaten), some beetroot.
Sheer panic for a good ten seconds!!

For too long most of us only know beetroot in a jar soaked in vinegar. I may get myself some next time I'm shopping. You can make some lovely drinks mixing various items often not available in the shops. Perhaps now though its just as easy to buy a few cartons and make your own by combining them...

You're right about watching the colour both when you pay a call but also at the risk of spilling it.

I seem to remember its said to be good for lowering blood pressure.

Anthony , don't know if you like curries but there is a cheap paperback An |Indian Housewife.s recipe book which has the cheapest and easiest Indian recipes you could imagine. Very simple recipes, cheap and with minimal spices. available on Amazon. Highly recommended.

I don't have much experience of curries except my best friend at school was Indian though I wouldn't say that he really followed an Indian culture. He did everything I did, ate the same foods, watched the same tv, films and listened to the same radio and music.

Heck, if he stayed over he would even attend the Christmas service at midnight at my church and sing all the Christmas carols...

His Father was Indian, his Mum was English...

But if I had tea at his home among the eggs and chips or whatever sometimes they'd do a curry but I suspect that it was very mild...I could give it a go sometime...
