Our MP Speaks At Last About The Town's Problems...

And in Parliament...Not sure why but at least it has happened, it would appear to be nothing more than a potted lecture of some of the town's history and where we are are. Not much in the way of what happens next as proposals have been known for some years.

What is not addressed by giving a progress report and history of how we are where we are is the fact that the councils across the UK are being closed down and merged so they will become larger and in doing so(in theory)we are starting with a clean slate and the errors and shortfall of previous Government bodies will be lost.

Also, this area has continually supported and voted in the same political party and officials on a local and national level therefore just who is responsible for the regeneration of the town and the fact that it has taken decades to get to the point the town finds itself? And more importantly why?

Considering that the previous Minister was one of the UK histories most important and media savvy personalities of the 20th Century and probably could've used his considerable knowledge of the media to the advantage of the town...I await to see if and when anything happens from the speech.

With all the changes that are happening with the mechanisms of government and officials as things are wound up, I want to be proven wrong but I think we'll still be waiting for some years to come. I hope that I am around to see it in my lifetime.

Parliamentary Speech

The wheels of Government in the U.K grind ever slowly Gildy. Did you see the comment on the new airport in China this week, it took less time to build than the public enquiry into T5 at Heathrow took.
The French have the right idea, if something needs doing they pass legislation as quickly as possible, I've been told the U.S.A is the same.

I don't know if you can always blame the local residents for the way an area deteriorates but the phase of the town that has been completed and which our MP praises(where Tesco's is built)

Already, it is is looking rough and untidy. The buildings are new but tidy it is not. Some lighting is not working, litter bins broken, seats drawn on, some removed, a few trees damaged etc...but as the store is open 24/7and it's an open area, it doesn't make any sense that it's already suffering.

On the grand scale of things what needs doing to keep it tidy could be done within hours and cost very little.

The speech given in Parliament has come too late as local Government is wound up. It also misses a point that the area that is need of demolishing was allowed to run down and the design of them was poor...lot's of hidden and dark corners, leaks and water damage, all done in that horrible dark brickwork and they contained little local shops that struggled to survive selling things like dress fabric and the like.

Eventually, most of them were taken up with estate agents, solicitors and insurance agents...and even they were driven out.

Look on the bright side...at least you now have an MP who may actually do something locally...like show up! I notice he is quick to get in the 'decades of deterioration' to avoid laying any blame with TB...

Sounds like they need private security or a permantent local police presence...much like several thousand other places in the UK!

This same politician was one of those who originally saw TB being selected to represent the area so many expect much of the sameness.

And though I think my town is pretty safe(or is it just that I never hear the negative stories that are going on)so I am out of touch and live in an area with relative low level crime? I think what you say is true regarding security.

The town centre's retail area is enclosed in what I suppose is a sealed rectangular design which you walk into at certain points.
