Durham..

I really must go and see Durham Cathedral and the Castle again before I'm too old to, I have a feeling it is twenty nine years since I last did so. Both dominate the City's skyline.

The above stature has a dominant position in the Market Place but I did not know some of its history until I looked at the following site about it featuring Charles William Vane Tempest Stewart(Marquess of Londonderry)

Another legend about the statue that I thought true for many years was that it the horse has no tongue. The sculptor had said that his work was so perfect no one could find fault with it. The story goes that a blind man made the discovery but it appears to be one of those urban myths.

Also looking at the website I have linked to the statue has had more work carried out on it over the years as has the market place. The statue faces in a different direction, there are no bus stops in the market place and no public conveniences.
