Wondering How Long You May Expect To Live?

In your part of the world...

Try this link

I looked and the prediction is that the age we are expected to live to has reduced by four years. Am I surprised. No.

Am I bothered? Not really. So living longer doesn't really mean that much as far as I can see if you are likely to need more care, utility and food bills continue to rise but incomes remain static it will be more like an existence and a case of filling in time. I don't mind simple but we all deserve a little treat, its good for the soul and our wellbeing.

Fantastic! The statistics from the above site don't sit comfortably.

The increase in gas and electric have been blamed on greed by many so far, often because the companies can and have to please shareholders or that is how the public in general feel. Lately, they have blamed the new greener policies of Governments...now the problems are being blamed on a shortage of certain resources and a delay in the building of new power stations whilst taking existing stations off line. Possibly too early.

If we are already struggling to pay and many are, this will only get worse. I doubt that I can cut back any further.

Gildy!

How are ya', Buddy?

I have neglected you horribly, but I've had a long catch-up on your posts and it seems you've been doing just fine! :o)

I decided, instead of posting on the individual pages (so long ago some of them), that I'd save it up for this one...

"Up": What a wonderful movie that was. Made me cry in the first five minutes! :oP But I loved it!

Patti Page: My Mom looooved Tennessee Waltz. It was always one of her favorites so that song always makes me think of my Mom too.

Charles Chilton: Wasn't that so sad? I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Journey Into Space! Great radio that.

This Is My Jam: Although I haven't looked at this yet, it sounds terrific! :o)

Patty Andrews: Really sad to hear of her passing. I've loved The Andrews Sisters since I was a little girl. I was kind of odd man out as most of my contemporaries had never even heard of them. There loss! What great music they made...always made me smile! RIP Patty. :o(

Casseroles vs Stews: Glad you got that solved! :o) I think casseroles, aside from being baked, tend to have either noodles or rice or potatoes in them with a sauce of some kind. Stews are more of a thick soup made on the stove.

Bubble and Squeak: Please tell a Yank, once and for all, what is this exactly. :o/

Sleeping/Eating at will: If you think about it, this is probably the most natural way. Times for these things are a relatively recent development in human history. I think it's healthier to do it this way myself. I love it too, by the way. :o)

End of part one...

Part two...

Cook book gift: I was wondering why governments don't go back to issuing food and household tips like they did during WWII. Seems to me I read somewhere that people were at their healthiest during this period. I know it would be helpful to have some recipes using good food for cheap that still taste good. We do what we can on our own, but any help would be great! Glad you have that. What a thoughtful person your friend is. If you find anything interesting in there be sure and post for the rest of us, eh? :o)

Packet Mixes: You know, the initial cost of buying spices is quite a lot, but I've found that it actually winds up being cheaper than the packets. You get a lot out of spices and you can change them up in so many different combinations. You can also control salt, which I find is off the charts on the packets over here.

Pancake Tuesday: What is this exactly? Why do you eat pancakes in particular on Shrove Tuesday? Curious minds want to know! :oP

Having Children When You're Older: Forget it! Kids are a young persons game, imo. If I had my boys NOW I believe they'd kill me! :oP

Stir-Fry: So glad your trying new culinary experiences, Gildy! It's so much fun finding and trying new recipes and really helps change things up. It's really easy to get into a food rut isn't it? Maybe you could find a cooking course in your area? That would be fun!

Jersy Boys: I have heard something about New Jersey Nights. So happy you were able to go and that you had so much fun. I love The Four Seasons music!:o) Souonds like most of your musical adventures are winners!

Mum missing out: I feel the same way! I'm so sad I didn't find BBC Radio until after my Mom passed. She would have adored it! It would have been something we could have enjoyed together. I know she would have appreciated it when she was ill. Ah well,as you say...you can't change things. :o/

The Student Cookbook - Great Grub for the Hungry and the Broke: This sounds right up my alley! :oP Glad you found a good herb book as well. I've had mine since I was in my twenties...a gift from Mom...and I love it! Very helpful!

Richard Briers: Loved him so much as Bertie Wooster. He always cracked me up. Also, as William in Two Pipe Problems. I wonder if they'll continue the series now. Not sure how they could.

Life Expectation: I have no desire to live to a great age. When it's my time...I'm ready to go. I'd like to see my grandkids first, and would prefer to have my youngest (20 years old) to be settled in a job and home of his own and preferably with a partner. Other than that...I'm good to go.

I will try not to let it go so long before catching-up again, Gildy. I've had so much going and then some health issues (nothing serious just naggy). It hasn't stopped me thinking of you though! You're always in my thoughts and prayers my friend. :o)

Well it's crazy late here...or ungodly early...whichever you prefer...and I haven't been to bed yet. :oP

Talk soon,

This Is My Jam...

Its not bad but if I only post one tune every 7 days that's only 52 songs annually and it really depends what is available to link to.

If I thought I could afford to and understand what it entails I would quite like to upload my music and run my own station but in reality there are plenty already for me just to listen to.

As said at present I quite like the following station as it has such a range of music and does not have any commercials, it has presenters but they rarely talk over the Music.

Solid Gold Gem AM.

http://www.solidgoldgem.am/

I must find out how to link in the comments section again...it can be done.

Bubble and Squeak is basically where you use up food leftovers and often make a kind of patti and fry it in a small amount of oil(but it can be done without any oil or fat)

Cut and paste the following:

http://britishfood.about.com/od/easybritishrecipes/r/bubblesqueak.htm

I'm not sure that we ever gave it a name, it was just something we and many did.

You can use just about anything but potato is the main ingrediant.

I'll add some more to your questions soon.

That sounds really good! Great way to use leftovers. I'll have to try that. :o)

Don't worry about answering, Gildy, unless you just feel like it.

Anyhoo, thanks for that! Finally a definitive answer!
