Cliff Richard Might Be Right...

He thinks that The Queen would prefer to watch some Opera. I think she's ok with some modern music if its not wailing and screech and has a tune. I don't think he need worry that his performance won't be enjoyed nor Vera Lynn(If she appears)or Shirley Bassey but Jessie J(?)or Robbie Williams, I'm not so sure..

This is quite good for all who missed yesterday's tv coverage, everything cut down to 3 minutes...

I understand that the tv was criticised for cutting back to the studio too much to hear talking heads, people wanted to stay with the event. Often another thing they do these days when an appropriate piece of music is playing to set the scene they'll talk all over it!

You'd have thought we'd have seen more of the boats individually & heard about their history, instead of all that inane wittering !

I think in the end that is probably one of the reasons I did not bother as I might've.

They can find people who can talk at the drop of hat but really say very little.

If it is such an historic event, we should have been told more.

I see Prince Philip has dropped out(Am I surprised?)

During Tony Blackburn's programme not much of what was played interested me, I have to admit if that was typical of tonight's fare I feel a bit sorry for the Queen.

We had a bit of quality a few minutes ago amongst the dross when the strings of the BBC Concert Orchestra played "Yesterday" by the Beatles.

On the other hand though it's seen as a musical milestone earlier on Tony's programme they played "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. I hate it!

I don't like much of John Lennon's solo output and the one I dislike the most is "Imagine"

I know it's down personal choice in the end...

Chris Evans is asking guests for a favourite record and Cheryl Cole picked her own song...

I'm with you regarding Philip, Gildy.
He did the boaty bit, which he likes but has cried off regarding the rest of the celebrations.
Making him stand in the cold and wet for three hours, at the age of 91, couldn't have done him much good.
Good luck to him.

I don't think I'd be able to do it and he's got years on me. I don't mind Phil, he gets a lot of stick.

But there you are again...the Queen says nothing that will get her into trouble...

I don't think you can truly say Prince Philip has cried off/dropped out. He's in hospital, and will also miss the service tomorrow. He's supported the Queen for 65 years through thick and thin, and I think he will be upset at letting the Queen down.

I love Bohemian Rhapsody!

I agree people far more robust than Prince Philip would struggle. If I was cold in my home, I cannot begin guess what it was like on the River Thames.

Anon, none of us knows what's really going on. They tell us anything they like and we swallow it. No wonder people like me make up our own story.
Whatever the truth of it is, jolly good luck to him.

Actually you were being rather snide about an old man of 90 who is in hospital. As they've said which one he's in, the nursing staff will know whether he's there or not.

I just don't think he would willingly leave the Queen to face tomorrow on her own if he could be there. I actually think he's been a brilliant support to the Queen for the last 60 years.

Cheryl Cole sang with Gary Barlow.

Her voice was weak and you realise that some need the extra help that can be given in a studio situation. Even without my criticism it was picked over by the media itself within minutes of happening and far more critical or cruel than anything I may say.

I don't think she should sing......Gary Barlow carried her through it.

I keep hearing that these days when many artists seem live there is some kind of software that your voice can be fed through that improves the overall sound, I suppose we should say it was good to see many of the artists were prepared to perform even if it was less than perfect. Perhaps Gary Barlow knew it was too much for her to go solo.

Usually she is surround by loud thumping beat music and dancers but this was such a quiet number where you needed to hold a note.

I cannot remember any Girl's Aloud songs that were quiet and again she was supported by another four or five people who could cover up for each other.

Another media created artist who's career will be short lived...

The device to which you allude is called 'Autotune' and is used to provide some semblance of normality to some people with little talent. That is why I despise the pop industry so much. Of course there are exceptions and popular singers do come along who have a long career and will perhaps go into history and whose recordings will live forever but these are few and far between. However the likes of these reality shows spawn people like Susan Boyle and Paul Potts who will have a relatively short career before going into obscurity.
These people also, to some degree, requre 'help' from a studio set-up to sound reasonable.
Compare these with any classical trained artist whether they be an instrumental soloist or true opera singer and then compare and contrast what real musical attainment is.

That's it..."Autotune" Today they just want to make a fast buck and drop an artist very quickly but if they can manage a decent turn around on a couple ofalbums heavily promoted on a tv programme like the X Factor, they're happy.

The winner of The Voice which I never saw but heard a clip on the radio, just shouted, if they get a CD out, it will sell but whether she sinks soon after is another matter.

Then again this seems to be the favourite musical style at present, I heard Rianna yesterday(awful)and I'm not much of a fan of Adele but her CD's sell...
