We Will Remember Them...
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave once her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English
heaven.
Rupert Brooke
I'm sure these thoughts hold true and represent similar feelings of soldiers across the United Kingdom and around the world.

A beautiful poem, Gildy, which still makes me cry.
I've left a post on the UK News board.
Well put as ever, Gildy.
Agree with Curmy and Ja.
How lifting it is (having just quickly looked at we 5 Live-ers blogs) how many have posted on this subject.
Having spent most of this morning weeping watching the TV, both you and Augustus have done us proud.

Thank you for your thoughts...
It was a decision in itself whether to keep things simple or say something personal but sometimes you cannot improve on what is already out there.
In a way, with or without wars being fought in the past or today, we are still fighting for our country and what it stands for. On many levels.
I would like to say in its purest mindset that the song's lyrics "War what is it good for...absolutely nothing!" is true.
Unfortunately, there always will be wars and rumours of wars. And some will be just or does that depend on which side you are standing?
The poetry of war and remembrance is so poignant and that one, is arguably the most poignant.
