What is a Blog?

Have I covered this before? If I have...I am sorry. But I think it is as I said when I started this journey, a place where we are able to post our ideas, memories, thoughts and perhaps if we were to go back in time we would find that views we once held and posted have changed. But also, how much of what is posted can we believe?

Is it a place where fantasies and make believe can be written? How many are using Blogs as a confession and if so how much of ourselves are we giving away? Are we writing our blogs for ourselves or do we really like the idea that someone is secretly reading what we are thinking?
I suppose in my own case being a person that does not get out much these days if I was to try and work out why I may do this perhaps I feel that's my way of being a part of society and having my voice heard.

I do seem to talk mainly about news and media matters but in time these probably will give clues to my personality and who I am and in full flight of expressing my opinions I may say something a little more personal.

I decided to post this after reading some blogs, that set me thinking. I decided to look around before getting down to some serious writing as its been quite some time since I did so. So I better get my skates on and commence writing...

Hi Gildy,

I think there is more tahn a hint of truth in your sentence "Are we writing our blogs for ourselves or do we really like the idea that someone is secretly reading what we are thinking?"...I write a load of tosh but sometimes it's interesting, as yet my blog has no theme and seems to wander...

I post stuff on the blog as and when when I think about it for want of somewhere else to put it...silly really.

Span however wites a splendid load of tosh if he can arrange a headline that begins (and possibly contains) an O...

Evening Gildy.

Span and gavin write blogs to satisfy their massive ego's. They just want the world to appreciate them the way they appreciate themselves and to realise what hale and hearty fellows they are! Hey guys you know I love you both to itsy bitsy pieces......

I blog because sometimes I need to let someone outside these four walls know that I am alive. It's a bit like pinching yourself to see if you are dreaming.

Oh Mags...now you've gone and upset me...sniff...

How can it be an ego thing?...if so mines really deflated! You have to work to get visitors...you'll notice I have a distinct lack of non BBC MB visitors now - mainly because I haven't been 'surfing' othe rblogs and making comments.

I did actually give the reason for my blog when I started, which still holds true.

Hi Gildy. This raises some very interesting points. I blog from a confessional standpoint I think.

No-one three dimensional (of importance to me) knows what I do. I can't tell them, obviously. What is important is the aspect of it being a diary that talks back. I think that is utterly fascinating.

Lately I have been more inclined to put the plain unvarnished truth (the truth as I see it of course!) as I have now gotten more used to the concept and the anonymity blogging affords. It has been a revelation to me frankly. There are people out there who I could walk past in the street and never know, who know of me, what I do, my innermost feelings and fears. That is truly extraordinary.

When you attach to that the fact it gives me a chance to flex my writing muscles again after so many years it is easy to see why I have become addicted to it so quickly.

Span, no wonder I couldn't find these comments, you pointed me towards Augustus' blog and here I find them on Gildy's!

Span, you know I was joking....surely? Well I was, honestly. If I offended you, I apologise. Seems like I am doing a good job in being offensive at present. Today on UKN, I have been told that I am rude, patronising and pompous! Moi? Surely not? I probably was if the truth be told but hey ho, that's life and sometimes you get out of bed and feel like kicking someone. Today I did.

Gildy, when are we going to get some more random jottings?

Hello Friends
I hope to get into my stride again as soon as possible.
Broadband may help...

Today I have been somewhat occupied debating whether its coincidence that I cannot get into a number of sites that I usually visit or if its more sinister...I have the usual virus checkers, Firewalls and software to check for spyware but one by one access to them all has been stopped.

One site was down for maintenance(and not remembering my password and user name there doesn't help matters ;-)

I am waiting for some help from that place.

Another site in helping me try and get back onto their site may mean that I now cannot gain access to the boards of a certain broadcasting company even though as far as I know I am supplying the correct information to do so. Their instruction meant deleting cookies.

And I have been locked out.

Its good to see you all around and joining in...

Take Care

Gildy x

Gildy, do you use adaware? If not, google for the link and then download the free version. It is very good and will give you added protection.

Deleting all your cookies is a good idea if you are having problems, plus deleting your history etc.

Give your pc a spring clean!

Thanks Mags,
All done and dusted...thanks but I am now back on one site ok, I'm almost sorted(I hope on another)but the one that is dragging its feet is that certain broadcaster :-)
So I suspect I will still be missing from there for today as well.

We'll see what happens tomorrow but with my check up at the hospital, I will not be able to chase them up until tomorrow afternoon so we'll see if any communication arrives before then.

Hope you are managing to enjoy some of this wonderful weather.

Hello Gilder,

My name is Gildersleeve Beaupre'.

I have lived through things as you have mentioned, since 1982.

I am well now.

It was LYME DISEASE.

Please look at www.canlyme.com.

It saved my life. (But it took 6 years.)

Hello Gildersleeve,
I apologise for a late response to your comment. Its unintentional. Thank you for taking the time out to read my blog and leave a message.

I'm sorry that you too have had a rough time and am thankful that you are well and came through it all.

I have another check up in about 13 days time. Always a concern as such a date grows nearer.

What you mention(without having looked up the information)I think is to do with ticks?

Actually an article has been printed in a daily national newspaper today suggesting that a change in the climate in the UK is making this a more frequent and common ailment and how important it is to get treatment reasonably quickly which, is all well and good if you realise what the problem is and the symptoms in the first place...

All the best to you...
